Stone Forest is located in Shilin County, 85 kilometres southeast of Kunming. Covering a few hundred square kilometres, stone peaks rise abruptly from the ground in numerous layers like bamboo shoots, forests and pagodas. Researches by Chinese and overseas geologists have proved that the Stone Forest is over 270 million years old. The area used to be an ocean. During the Long Geological Period from the late Permian Period 230million years ago to 2 million years ago , the ocean subsided and giant rocks appeared. During this time the rocks were gradually worn away by water, forming the strange rock forms seem today.

Silbury Hill is the largest human-built mound in Europe. It has been estimated that it would have taken a team of 500 men about 15 years to complete Silbury Hill. There are no clear idea of the purpose for which Silbury Hill was built. It was assumed by many early investigators that the hill is a massive burial mound, a monument to the colossal ego of some long-dead Neolithic chieftain. Silbury Hill was built in three distinct phases. The first was a mound some 20 feet (5.5 m) high, which was then capped with a covering of chalk rubble. This layer was then built up with a final covering of chalk excavated from the 25 foot deep (7m) ditch which surrounds the base of the hill.
Fairy Chimneys is a conical rock formation, typically found in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. Millions of years ago two volcanoes - Erciyes and Hasan were active and covered an area of 20000 square kilometers with lava. After volcanoes became extinct water and wind destroyed much of the softer rock (tufa), but upper layer of harder rock (basalt) was less affected by erosion, so it formed "caps" on top of the rocks. In Cappadocia, houses have been carved from these formations, and they make it a popular tourist destination.More related:
