Samsung and Intel PC Design Contest 2007

Samsung and Intel PC Design Contest 2007 held in Korea, judges were looking for design concepts that moved away from your typical stereotype PC. They received entries from well-known designers in various industries, including fashion, architecture, automobile and the Web. Out of 644 entries, 6 designs won awards.



The grand-prize winner in the "revolutionary" category is the Egg PC. The machine includes three 'egg-shape' Bluetooth-ready marble knobs designed for multimedia applications which are media player, disc drive and digital camera. The marbles rest atop a tray and connect wirelessly to the main PC.



Turning Lamp, which won in the "futuristic" category, starts up with a simple pull of a cord as if one were turning on a lamp. With pull the string to turn on the PC on then rotate the cube, the box changes into a different mode, from PC to music player to video player.



B-Membrain, winner of the "challenger" category, incorporates an unusual method of delivering images. Instead of using a monitor, it beams the image onto a wall or projection screen. Its built-in beam projector -- placed on top of the circular body -- adjusts both the distance and direction of the image.



The co-winner of the "imagination" category is Digiplan, which incorporates a PDA with a PC and uses a very slim monitor and keyboard.

Another winner of the "imagination" award is the Clock PC (not pictured). It uses a pipe organ motif in its design and serves as a clock and weather reporter when the PC is off or in idle mode. It can be hung on a wall or placed on a table.



Any Top received top honors in the "style" category for eliminating connection wires. The touch-screen system design allows for wireless connection between a desktop PC and an ultramobile notebook PC. When the owner is out and about, the keyboard becomes a monitor as well. With a desktop connection, the keyboard reverts to a manual input device.



Fashion designer Sang-Bong Lee created Going Out. The design resembles a handbag from the outside, but inside is a small notebook PC.



Once Again in Front of the Mirror is a concept PC design from architect Won-Chul Kim in Samsung and Intel PC Design Contest 2007.
